The company started its activities in the 1950’s and has grown as a development firm that in the 1960’s and 1970’s constructed more than a hundred buildings. In 1979, it was elected the best construction company in the country by Exame magazine .
Sobloco diversified its business by building various commercial developments, hotels, industrial facilities, shopping centres, bus terminals and, in a consortium with other companies, it operated in the area of heavy construction work.

Among its major urban developments are the Riviera de São Lourenço in Bertioga, with an area of 9 million square metres, Faber Castell Park in São Carlos, São Paulo state, with an area of 2.1 million square metres, and Espaço Cerâmica, in São Caetano do Sul, São Paulo state, with 300,000 square metres.
By concentrating on activities that reconcile development and ecological balance, Sobloco has won accolades at home and abroad. The Riviera de São Lourenço has been recognized as a model of land use three times over: in Vienna in 1989, in Buenos Aires in 1990, and in Punta del Este, Uruguay, in 1992 . In 2003, the Riviera de São Lourenço was awarded the Master Property Prize as an hors concours project, a prize for excellency in Brazilian property development sponsored by the Brazilian Chapter of FIABCI – The International Real Estate Federation and by SECOVI in São Paulo – Sindicato das Empresas de Compra, Venda, Locação e Administração de Imóveis Residenciais e Comerciais de São Paulo (São Paulo State Housing Syndicate).
The Faber-Castell industrial park was also awarded the Master Property Prize in 2000, in the Business category.
Always innovating and at the forefront of research and the implementation of new techniques and procedures to protect the environment, Sobloco won a Master Prize in 2005, this time in the Environment category, for the Waste Management System in the construction of the Mirante dos Sambaquis building at Riviera de São Lourenço.
Such projects have helped to put urban development in Brazil at the highest international levels.
